Well, firstly, chemical relaxers will work on black hair or white hair. However, look around at the different black women you've seen with straight hair. You know the ones that have gotten their hair straight, but it has stopped looking like hair and is really stringy and gross-looking? That's because they use chemical relaxers from the drug store, and they've done it too many times. Now look at the black women that have straight hair that actually looks like hair still. The reason their hair looks so much better is because they get their hair professionally done, and even then it does a lot of damage, so they get periodic hot oil treatments.
A chemical relaxer will do a seriously huge amount of damage. I would put it in a category worse than bleach. If your hair isn't extremely excessively curly, I would strongly caution against using a relaxer. If you're looking for a way to straighten your hair that causes less damage, using a relaxer may actually be the worst thing you could do.
Instead of doing something that will be so bad for you, why not invest in a good straightener? If you use a ceramic straightener, it will be gentler on your hair and cause less damage. The ceramic will not burn out the natural oils your scalp produces to protect your hair, while metal does. Also, there are heat-protecting serums out there that you can put on your hair before straightening. A combination of switching your straightener and using protecting products should solve your burning hair/split end problem.

You should go to a beautician and ask her what you can do. I wouldn't just dive in it. That's why they make different products for black and white people hair.
i would advise you not to do that..
one of my friends tried it and it fried her hair and she regrets it now. it took forever to get her normal hair back.
