I Have african american hair and want to perm straighten it. Do I ask for a perm or a relaxer?

Im looking for as pin straight as possible. If you also know help me out at a good salon in Vancouver that does good perms or relaxers. Which one do i get?!?!? I have REALLY MAJORLY curly hair and going for as striaght as possible. Thanks so much in advance!!I Have african american hair and want to perm straighten it. Do I ask for a perm or a relaxer?
get a Yuko or Liscio chemical straightening. They are the most effective in getting your hair as straight as possible. I have it and although my hair is thick is is perfectly straight now :)I Have african american hair and want to perm straighten it. Do I ask for a perm or a relaxer?
As far as I know, a perm is a relaxer. Why mess with nature? Some women would die for majorly curly hair and a great cut can really make it look great.
relaxer
Go to a good hair dresser. She/he will know which you need to solve the problem.
when you get it done professionally they will know by the texture of your hair and strength of your hair which perm to use if this is your first time do not do it yourself please get it done professionally
in most salons, if you ask for a ';perm'; they will think you want a curl permanent.

if you want bone-straight hair, then ask for a ';relaxer';. make sure it doesn't have lye in it and definitely make sure that wherever you go that the stylist is professionally trained to work with and style ';african-american'; hair. it will save you a lot of issues and drama if you make sure of this before you sit in their chair.
Relaxer definatly! Perms Dont last much and it will be a waste of money
What white people call a perm is where it makes their hair curly.

If you're black then you are getting a relaxer but we call it a perm also. They're interchangeable. If you go to a black hairstylist she will know what you mean if you say a perm %26amp; you will get your hair relaxed. Perm=relaxer in black culture
depends. black salon-perm white salon-relaxer

for whites a perm means to curl blacks understand it as a straightner

Hello, I have really curly hair to and couldn't deal with it my whole childhood and either could my mother..lol...she used to cut it really short so i looked like a boy...anyways i just recently got it straightened with this new straightening system at the salon...it's a europeon product takes about 5 hrs and costs around 500 dollars...so worth the money....Humidity hat not my hair is poker straight....easy to blow dry its wonderful!!!! good luck
Here is what I would do. Go to a beauty school find some one who is at the top of HIS class and get a consolation.
Get African Pride Super Relaxer. Its sells foe $8.00 at most stores.
What African and what american did you steal your hair from?
You should get the Japanese Straightener you can take a shower and go. It is kinda pricey!

  • What hair relaxer is best?

Half of my hair is already relaxed, but it already grew and i want to relax it again.

I'm a latino boy with really curly thick coarse hair!!!!

I want a relaxer that won't dry out my hair as much and will leave it as healthy as possible...

Please don't suggest to leave it how it is or using a flat iron....

First of all my mom wouldn't let me have a flat iron and she doesn't know that i relax my hair...sooo yea

And also do you suggest i use regular strength or super....because I'm not african-american but still have really coarse hair...but will the super dry it out too much???

Sooo any suggestions of which hair relaxers to use???What hair relaxer is best?
hi got my first! relaxer today but i did some research and found out that it has to be affirm that's what my hair dresser used and most people say is the best relaxes the hair but it conditions it as well

    My hair relaxer didn't work?

Ok i have super thick hair, its not that long, it comes like one or two inches below my shoulders (without straightener) . Well i got tired of using a hot comb cause it takes 3 hours to do it with my big head of hair so i tried to relaxer.I was trying to spread it around on my head really fast because i only had 18 minutes but i only went 5 minutes over the time that i was supposed to leave it in. Could it be over processed? So then i rinsed it and I had long loose curly hair (it wasn't even straight all the way) and then when i went under the blow dryer....POOF! It was a bit softer, but it looked just like it did before and it wasn't soft at all. Any help? I followed the directions and stuff but im not experienced with hair relaxers though. My hair relaxer didn't work?
A relaxer doesn't make the hair straight, it just relaxes the curl. It makes it easier to manage. I have a relaxer and right now my hair is big %26amp; poofy too! After I put the conditioner in it will be soft and curly.

I'm not sure what you mean by ';went under the blow dryer'; but if you will blow dry your hair, you should do it in sections. What you need to do now is wet your hair again, and definitely use a leave-in conditioner. Blow dry it using a wide toothed comb, on a medium heat. Then check your hair carefully by running your fingers through it and feel the areas of the scalp to make sure you relaxed it evenly. If you feel spots that still feel wavy, you didn't relax it evenly. Now that you have a relaxer on your hair, make sure that you take really good care of it. Use a moisturizing shampoo, conditioner and always use a leave-in conditioner. Also, watch your hair for breakage. If you use heat to style your hair use a heat protector; personally I like serums. Next time have someone with experience help you.My hair relaxer didn't work?
you should have gotten it done at a salon. those directions on the boxes of at home ';do-it-yourself'; relaxers aren't specific enough.

also, you might not have gotten the type of relaxer that was appropriate for your hair type, which is another thing that a hair stylist would automatically know.

you might need to visit a hair stylist, especially after what you did to your hair!! :(

    hope i helped. :)
Your relaxer probably wasn't strong enough. Look on the side of the box and get one for thick hair.

Black Hair - Relaxer vs Texturizer?

My 11 year old daughter has a beautiful thick head of hair. I get her hair washed and blown every week. And although her hair remains straight, her roots quickly become very thick and unmanageable. I really don't like the idea of processing her hair, yet she's getting older and wants to be able to wear her hair in styles that would require her roots to cooperate. My question is what would be better a mild relaxer or a texturizer? And what is the biggest difference in the two?Black Hair - Relaxer vs Texturizer?
Have you consult with any professional hair stylist?

My hair relaxer got ruined by sweat! what should i do????

i got a virgin relaxer the other day (edges only, roots to ends) and got a weave. I waited 24 hours before heading to the gym, and when i arrived home I noticed my hair was puffy and appeared to be not as sleek as the day i got it relaxed. i flat ironed it, but it still has that slight puff to it. it is not entirely blending with the texture of the weave hair unless i flat iron it every morning! i now realize i should've waited longer before working out!!! my question is, is it possible to get a root to end relaxer again? or will my hairdresser only give me touch-up relaxers (just grown out roots)??? any suggestions? My hair relaxer got ruined by sweat! what should i do????
She will probably only do a touch up because a full relaxer would be way to much on your hair that soon. You may even have to wait a while to get one again. Relaxers are extremely damaging to your hair and to have it done twice would be really bad. I dont have much experience with relaxers so definitely go back to the salon and get the stylist's opinion!

    Help! hair relaxer?!?

Okay so im a biracial mixture of Black %26amp; korean so my hair is pretty curly, but it isnt kinky. I've been relaxing my hair with Mizani relaxer %26amp; it works GREAT, it keeps my hair super soft %26amp; smooth %26amp; shiny.

I needed a touch us because my roots were growing out, so i called the salon %26amp; asked if i could get it done but the lady who does my hair wasnt there. Me being bummed called another lady(black) off Craigslist to get it done at her house %26amp; i told her i used Mizani. when i got there. she used optimum on my hair %26amp; when i was done my hair looked HORRIBLE. its was friedd %26amp; feel crunchy, %26amp; on top of that.. she burned tha side of my face! How could i get my hair to be smooth again? :( im really sad about this.. i take hair very serious.Help! hair relaxer?!?
I'm sorry. There's not anything you can do at this point except use reconstructing products and wait it out. She overprocessed your hair, she shouldn't have done all the hair, just the roots.

Try Redken's real control line: http://www.redken.com/products/haircare/鈥?/a>

especially the hair mask. Most of these products will really help it get under control until your hair grows out. Stay away from hot tools as much as you can stand until you've had a chance to repair some of the damage. It shouldn't go straight, though. Don't attempt to relax again, you'll have the same result, or worse.Help! hair relaxer?!?
First off im very sorry about ur bad hair experience. U should never switch up hair relaxers because your hair reacts differently to a new thing. Do lots of protein treatments to get ur Hair back together and strong and moisturize with Olive oil to make ur hair strong and seal in moisture. Also do lots of reaserch on fixing dmaged, overprocessed hair.

    GOOD LICK:)
that sucks but it happens to everyone, my mom trimmed mine once in grade school and ended up with a bob/ bowl cut type thing! you should get a conditioner with vitamins... some stuff from Chi is apparently really good. that should repair it.

answer my hair Q!! please :)

    Remove hair relaxer?

is there a way to reverse the effects of this certain hair relaxer i put in my hair. ';super strength'; LINK:(http://www.organicrootstimulator.com/oli鈥?/a>Remove hair relaxer?
the lady above me is right. Sorry, but you cannot reverse a chemical process. You could always straighten your roots with a flat iron and blend the hair until your afro is a length your comfortable with and then cut it off.Remove hair relaxer?
A chemical relaxer changes the structure of the hair. There is no way to reverse it. The only thing you can do is let it grow out naturally and cut off the relaxed ends as your hair grows.
