Can a chemical hair relaxer permanently damage your hair?

i havent used it for a year now and my hair is still dried out from it how long untill it will go away? i havent used that chemical relaxer in a year and when i used it i only used it for 1 year and probably used it like 6 or 7 times in that year. and ive noticed my hair doesnt grow as fast. i believe this is from the chemical relaxer and i want to know how long untill my hair is back to normal?? i have thick wavy hair. Can a chemical hair relaxer permanently damage your hair?
it can only hurt the hair above the skin surface, not the follicle, so noCan a chemical hair relaxer permanently damage your hair?
Once you relax your hair, it changes the chemical composition of the hair. But it shouldn't make it overly dry unless your hair was damaged from over processing. Even if that was the case, it shouldn't still affect your hair if you haven't used it in a year. But the hair at the ends may still be damaged and this may cause split ends that will continue to affect the new growth. I would recommend getting a good trim/hair cut from a licensed stylist. If your hair is that damaged, that may be what you need to get the hair and hair growth back on the right track!
when ever you use a relaxer you have to do a deep conditioning on your hair. always!!! when you do a touch up you can't reapply it to your hair it has to go on your roots. Is your hair long or short? any kind of chemical on your hair can damage it. don't leave your relaxer on long..you have straight hair compared to mine. make sure you do a deep conditioning and oil treatment
i think you should go to the salon, they can be really helpful because they know what they are doing. if you ask the salon questions, they will help you figure it out.

and for britney that asked if you're black, forget here, shes probably a ***** anyways if shes reading this.

we are all beautiful in and out, black and white, yellow and pink !
it will damage your hair that got the chemicals on it but as the hair grows in it becomes healthy

try to let all of the hair that is new growth hair grow out and then cut all of the damaged hair off
